Dutch White Veal
To produce milk, a cow must first give birth to a calf. Dutch farmers produce enormous quantities of dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese and yoghurt, so it comes as no surprise that many calves are also born in the Netherlands. The male calves obviously have no future as dairy cattle and are therefore used in the meat industry. Most veal is exported, especially to Italy. Two kinds of veal are available: white and rose. White veal is light in colour mainly because the calves are fed on milk. The meat has a very fine texture and a subtle taste. Rose veal is slightly darker in colour thanks to the corn and grain-based diet the calves are fed from the age of two months.
